    Research Specialist V – closes 3/15/2022. Leads internal data quality improvement projects and performs complex SAS programming to improve Texas Cancer Registry (TCR) data quality. Develops reports to monitor overall cancer registry data quality for TCR managers and staff. Applies technical expertise and background knowledge of cancer registries to serve as a resource for registry staff, Information Technology staff, and external stakeholders. Oversees and leads the creation of data files for the National Cancer Institute Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results Program, North American Association of Central Cancer Registries and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Calls for Data, which includes establishing and implementing methods and procedures to assure data file integrity. Serves as a liaison with external agencies, other DSHS and HHS programs, and IT staff to identify data issues and develop and implement solutions to these issues.

     

    Information Specialist III – closes 3/15/2022. Under the general direction of the Texas Cancer Registry (TCR) Epidemiology Manager, performs highly complex informational and communications work. Work involves coordinating, researching, writing, editing, production, and dissemination of content and materials for TCR publications, such as statistical reports, cancer fact sheets, cancer reporting guidance and requirements, grant and contract applications and progress reports, the TCR newsletter, special presentations, training and conference materials, and exhibits. Responsible for maintaining and updating TCR Intranet and Internet websites and the TCR SharePoint site. Serves as an information resource responding to cancer reporter, researcher/data requestor, and other external requests for information about the TCR, reporting requirements, and how to request/access cancer data. Coordinates activities and meetings of the Advisory Committee to the Texas Cancer Registry (ACTCR), external partners, and other ad hoc committees.

     

    Registry Operations and Quality Assurance Program Specialist Vs – perpetual posting until all positions filled. Under the supervision of the Registry Operations Manager, serves as leads in assisting and coordinating SEER-related Cancer Epidemiology & Surveillance Branch activities. Performs administrative, advanced (senior-level) consultative services, and technical assistance work required in directing and facilitating cancer data reporting and cancer data dissemination. Leads, plans and recommends techniques, standards, policies, and procedures for cancer incidence reporting activities. Provides guidance to other team members on monitoring, evaluating and implementing national edit sets necessary to meet national data quality measures. Assists with hiring, training, monitoring, and evaluating staff. Work is performed under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment and action.
