The Alaska Cancer Registry (ACR) is current recruiting for the position of Public Health Data Analyst. This position is located in Anchorage and is housed in the Section of Health Analytics and Vital Records, Division of Public Health. The position conducts the data analysis, database management, and related cancer surveillance functions for ACR under the CDC`s National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), using cancer data submitted by health care facilities and other state cancer registries. The public health data analyst is responsible for independently processing cancer data and managing database, conducting data quality improvement activities, and overseeing production of standardized reports to allow for monitoring of cancer incidence and mortality in Alaska. More specifically, this position can independently perform cancer cluster investigations for various areas of the state, conduct quality assurance and logic checks on cancer data using statistical methods, use GIS software and protocols to conduct spatial analysis of cancer data, and uses statistical software to runs queries, link datasets, summarize incidence and mortality statistics, and conduct ad hoc data requests.
Alaska Cancer Registry staff members currently work in the office together in Anchorage one day a week. During the rest of the week, ACR staff work remotely in their home offices and stay in close contact via email and Microsoft Teams.
