    Virginia Cancer Registry Program Manager

    Virginia Department of Health

     

    The Division of Population Health Data (DPHD) is responsible for analytic and outreach services within the Office of Family Health Services (OFHS), including epidemiological activities regarding the collection, monitoring, analysis and interpretation of data, and program evaluation regarding programmatic data-informed decision-making and needs assessment activities. The DPHD seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Cancer Registry Program Manager. This position supports the delivery of program services agency wide by formal supervision of staff Program Specialists and administrative personnel. As a member of the Virginia Cancer Registry (VCR), this position is responsible for overseeing a team consisting of IT, Education and Training, Epidemiology, Quality Assurance and Oncology Data Specialist staff. This position will assist with strategic planning, policy development, fiscal and human resource management, and other administrative duties; ensures compliance with state and federal reporting requirements for the collection of cancer data; works with cancer reporters and other state and national agencies including National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), and NAACCR (North American Association of Central Cancer Registries) to ensure that the highest quality cancer surveillance data are collected in a timely and effective manner and in compliance with national data quality standards; directs and reports on the evaluation of the VCR; serve as a liaison to cancer programs and external partners; oversees implementation of new methods to facilitate the efficient processing of cancer surveillance data. In addition, this position will lead an Advisory Board of interdisciplinary members, respond to cancer cluster investigations, and oversee data governance tasks for sharing VCR data. This position will work under the limited supervision of the Division Director.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:  

    • Knowledge of business and management principles involved strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, service delivery, and coordination of
      people and resources.
      Knowledge of administrative procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and experience with software packages, such as SAS, SQL, ArcGIS, Access & Excel.
      Experience in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of health programs
      Demonstrated experience as a supervisor supervising multiple programs and a variety of complex tasks
      Experience providing problem resolution and support for strategic planning 
      Demonstrated effective communication skills, verbally and in writing

    Additional Considerations:  

    • • Considerable knowledge of methods of public health surveillance and case, cluster, and outbreak investigations.
      • Demonstrated ability to collect, quality assure, analyze, interpret, & present statistical data.
      • Extensive experience in public health, cancer epidemiology, program evaluation, and/or biostatistics
      • Experience w/ database management systems, especially those used to manage population-based disease data or other conditions of public health significance.
