The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) has released its Cancer Surveillance API, designed to support cancer registry staging for cases diagnosed in 2021 and later. The API includes a library that incorporates content from AJCC's electronic content and SEER*RSA.
The AJCC Cancer Surveillance API includes descriptions of the TNM categories and stage groups and is available to CDC/NPCR central registries and providers that use Registry Plus products to report to the central registry. The AJCC Cancer Surveillance API is also available to be licensed by commercial registry software vendors and other states or provinces that would like to use the product. For questions about availability and pricing, please contact the AJCC at ajcc@facs.org
The AJCC Cancer Surveillance API will be incorporated into Registry Plus products for NAACCR v21.
The AJCC Cancer Surveillance API supports the following staging data systems:
- AJCC TNM 8th ed. All T, N, M, and stage group tables for clinical, pathological, posttherapy clinical (yc) [no stage groups], and posttherapy pathological (yp) staging , and algorithms for selecting the appropriate chapter/disease for staging based on primary site, histology, and discriminators.
- AJCC Version 9 Cervix Uteri T, N, M definitions, stage group table for clinical, pathological, posttherapy clinical [no stage groups] and posttherapy pathological staging and algorithms for selecting the staging based on primary site, histology, and discriminators.
- EOD tables and algorithms for selecting the appropriate schema for staging based on primary site, histology, and discriminators. The EOD schema selection algorithm is also used for the following two sets of tables.
- Directly coded Summary Stage 2018
- Site-Specific Data Items (SSDIs) such as biomarkers and prognostic factors required or recommended by AJCC, including site-specific coding for tumor grade during the clinical, pathological, and both posttherapy staging periods.
