The Kentucky Cancer Registry (KCR) is seeking a qualified Associate Director of Registry Operations to lead the modernization of registry operations in the realm of emerging healthcare informatics methods and technologies.  It will be essential to improve the efficiencies of statewide cancer reporting in order to expand the breadth and depth of surveillance data that will include molecular and multi-omics diagnostic reports, structured treatment information, measures of disease response, and additional patient outcomes.  Artificial intelligence and machine learning will play a greater role in the processing of clinical documents and ensuring high quality next generation data.  We envision a future population-based registry dataset that will better inform clinical decision making and precision medicine clinical trial enrollments throughout Kentucky.  In addition to traditional cancer registry data standards, a clear understanding of informatics and data science will be an asset for this role.

This senior management position plays an essential leadership role in registry operations at the KCR, located at the NCI Designated Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky. The KCR serves a population with an exceptionally high cancer burden. The needs for timely and high-quality data that can be used for cancer prevention and control planning and evaluation as well as cancer research is critical.  We are seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking individual to continue our history of excellence in registry operations and help us adapt to the rapidly evolving cancer data ecosystem.

The Associate Director of Registry Operations oversees all data collection and quality assurance activities for KCR. Duties include participation in the development and execution of major grant and contract proposals. This position supervises a team of certified tumor registrars and other operations staff who are responsible for data capture, management, quality and reporting of all cancers diagnosed and treated in the state of Kentucky. This position plays an important role in strategic planning for the modernization of KCR operations through the adoption of emerging informatics methods in data capture and the expansion of the cancer registry dataset. Experience in the operations of both hospital and population-based central cancer registries is highly desirable.  An understanding of electronic health records, clinical ontologies and emerging data standards will be important. Familiarity with cancer research, data governance, and the protection of patient confidentiality will also be needed.  This position offers an exciting opportunity to play a leadership role in national and international cancer surveillance and registry modernization efforts.
