The Revised Common Rule has been in place since 2018, but did you know:
- IRB review is not necessarily required for linkage studies that only involve release of cancer registry data.
- Continuing review is not generally required for research eligible for expedited IRB review.
If this is news to you, you are not alone! Recently, NAACCR created a fact sheet (attached) on the Revised Common Rule to include guidance, examples, and Q&A about downstream research involving cancer registry data. This new fact sheet, and various other resources on the Revised Common Rule, can be found at https://www.naaccr.org/irb-information-for-cina/ (under Revised Common Rule Materials). Happy reading!
